Protein(s)ings with logoEsomeprazole is a prescription-only medication recommended by healthcare professionals to relieve the itching, burning, pain, and inflammation associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor, which reduces stomach acid production and helps with the healing process of the esophagus. Esomeprazole is used to treat various conditions, including GERD. Gastric and duodenal ulcers, perforations, and gastroesophageal reflux are serious side effects of esomeprazole. Esomeprazole should not be taken by individuals who are hypersensitive to, or over the age of 14 years. Rarely, esomeprazole may lead to a condition called "zoonosis" where esomeprazole is unable to combat the transmission of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) in people with fructose-containing food. Esomeprazole is not recommended for use in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, or AIDS. Esomeprazole may cause serious side effects, such as a fast, racing, or unsteady walk, possibly leading to permanent injury or even death. If you notice any of the following serious side effects, you should immediately seek medical attention and contact a doctor immediately: chest pain or tightness in the chest, trouble breathing, coughing up blood, or slurred speech. These could be signs of a serious condition called "zoonosis" and require immediate medical attention. Heart rhythm problems and sudden loss of vision have been reported rarely with the use of esomeprazole. Esomeprazole should not be taken by individuals who are allergic to other proton pump inhibitors (e.g. pizelast, esomeprazole). Esomeprazole should not be taken by individuals who are taking other medications for conditions such as infections, liver disease, or certain kidney or heart problems. Esomeprazole can cause serious side effects, such as a fast, racing, or unsteady walk, possibly leading to permanent injury or even death. In the ongoing battle to keep costs down, the drug companies are also facing a new challenge: the increasing demand for Nexium. With a new medication for heartburn, Nexium (esomeprazole) is the only approved treatment for this debilitating condition.
“The cost of the drug is increasing at a rate that is increasing,” says, a physician and clinical pharmacist with the University of Washington’s Center for Pharmacy and Healthcare Practice. Nexium, which is taken daily, is available in multiple forms and is often used in conjunction with other medications to help patients get the treatment they need.
“But for those of us in the industry, the cost of Nexium is a bit higher than that,” says Michael L. Brown, MD, a consultant at the University of Washington’s Center for Pharmacy and Healthcare Practice. “We see a lot of people in the industry asking: how do we know what is being taken in this way?”
“There is a huge amount of research going on to support people being treated for this disease,” Brown says. “The price of Nexium is not just going to be increasing, it’s going to be increasing.”
To help you make an informed decision about your treatment, ask your doctor, pharmacist, and pharmacist about your current health conditions and treatment plans.

You can also get more than one dose of Nexium for your condition. If you have a medical history of stomach problems, such as heartburn or ulcers, you can receive Nexium for a specific condition.
A doctor may prescribe an alternative treatment for another medical condition.
For example, in the case of ulcers or other stomach problems, the doctor can prescribe a prescription for the treatment of those conditions or recommend other medicines to help manage symptoms. But in the case of heartburn, a gastroenterologist can prescribe Nexium as well.
If you are also prescribed a medication for other conditions, the doctor may prescribe Nexium instead. This allows you to receive the same treatment as you would with a non-prescription medication.
